Emerald is one of the most expensive precious stones and has been highly valued by man for thousands of years. Its unique color is due to traces of chromium found in the crystal structure.
The Emerald is also called “Smargad” or “Green Beryl”. The name is derived from Persian, meaning green.

The ancient Greeks devoted the stone to the Goddess Venus and believed in its power to provide continuity, security and love. In the East it was believed that the stone had power to enhance memory, improve the ability to think and forecast the future. In ancient Egypt it symbolized fertility.
In the bible it is called “Bareket”, one of the Breastplate Stones of the High Priest, and is identified with the Levi tribe.

Emerald crystals found in nature do not have unified color and they all have inclusions. The stone has a high level of hardness but a low level of toughness; therefore the stone may crack even from a soft blow.

The stone has strong healing power regarding the heart, lungs, spinal cord and muscles.
It is considered to enhance motivation and optimism and help in decision making and has a calming effect. For couples it increases sensitivity and the ability to receive and give love. It helps overcome mental traumas and in coping with changes more easily. It strengthens the memory and helps with intuition in distinguishing between truth or falsehood.

The Emerald suits mainly Taurus, Gemini, Libra, Scorpion and Pisces.
